QuickBooks POS: 7 Ways to Protect Your POS System from Attack

Today we will talk about seven different ways that you can keep your QuickBooks Point of Sale safe from malicious attackers. Let’s begin:

  1. Be vigilant. You need to be more vigilant. You have to be more of a lot of things. If you are opening an email or something is popping on your screen saying that there is something wrong with your computer, take time to do research. Most of these are scams or ploys to trick you into calling them and give your personal details. It would be best to call somebody who is a little more depth in the computer world. You may call your local computer repair person or better yet you can give us a call instead in our hotline 8888–282–8833.
  2. Educate your employees. You would want to give your employees an education of online safety. You need to talk to your employees and make sure that they understand that they are working in an environment where people will try to get one over on them. You may go online and find information about scams and put together a training manual or course to help your employees be educated on the different ways on how scams work. Also, make sure that your employees are not installing apps that are unnecessary for work in the computer.
  3. Update Your System. Update your QuickBooks Point of Sale software as well as all of your software. Update them as much as possible and as often as possible. You should always check for install updates because it can protect your data when it comes to Point of Sale. Set aside one day of the week on your schedule in a set time that you make sure to update your Windows and make sure to check for updates on your QuickBooks Point of Sale.
  4. Have a good Antivirus or Firewall. Get a good security system on all of your devices, makes sure that you have anti-virus software. McAfee doesn’t seem to play very well with QuickBooks Point of Sale so you might want to stay away from that one.
  5. Backup everything. Make sure that you have backup of everything. In Windows, you may change your setting where your computer can automatically set up a backup. You can set up an automatic backup of your most important files and folders. You can place your backup files in an external hard drive or thumbdrive.
  6. Backup Cloud Service. You should heavily consider doing not just external backup but also a cloud-based backup. Consider relying on a cloud service for backup. Cloud service is very important because it is little better than the external hard drive because your computer / drive may get stolen or could get damaged. Unlike in cloud service you are safe from damages. Also make sure that the cloud service has file revisions, meaning every time a file changes it makes a new copy of the file.
  7. Be prepared. Always be prepared for malicious attackers. It is important to set up a standard operating procedure for when things go wrong. Make yourself a plan that is going to involve how to do sales and receipts when the Point of Sale is down. Have a plan of actions that includes steps, thoughts, ideas and contacts on how to solve future problems in your QuickBooks Point of Sale. This will help you minimize your down time and it will maximize your sale even though your Point of Sale has gone.
